Founded in June 2021, Power Team Consulting’s small but growing team consists of project management experts, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, project engineers, regulatory specialists, communications experts, and an Indigenous relations consultant.

Our talented team is actively engaged in generation project development in Canada and the U.S., blue hydrogen project development, hydrogen-fired gas turbine generation, carbon capture and underground storage, solar projects, regulatory support, and providing communications services.

  • President

    Most of Ken’s 36-year career has been in leadership roles overseeing engineering and project management teams, corporate departments, power stations, and major energy projects. In 2021, Ken founded Power Team Consulting Ltd., an engineering and project management consulting company, serving clients in power generation and oil and gas sectors.

    Ken is an experienced and passionate leader, project manager, project developer, and engineer with a diverse career in power generation and associated infrastructure. He was project director for a number of significant power generation projects, including large combined cycle and cogeneration power stations - roles in which Ken had oversight of all workstreams. His renewable energy and energy storage projects include wind generation, PV solar, and pumped hydro.

    In his decades of employment with ATCO, Ken established and grew ATCO Power’s corporate engineering department, providing engineering and maintenance support to meet operating fleet needs as well as greenfield development. His career has afforded him the insights that grow from international work in Europe, Mexico, Australia, and the US, along with a broad range of client relationships, contractual arrangements, and supplier engagement.

    With a reputation for quality and consistency, Ken is relied upon for achieving results and enjoys making a difference, both individually and through inspiring and leading the teams that report to him.

    As a Director of Power Team Consulting, Kathleen is involved in the day-to-day business and financial management of the company.

    Kathleen holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees, a Red Seal Certificate as a cook, and is employed as a Registered Dietitian.

  • Project Management and Strategic Communications Consultant

    Andrew Seal is a project management and strategic communications consultant providing support on a variety of Power Team Consulting’s projects. His diverse roles include project management, deliverable and task management, client interfacing producing and presenting client update reports, editing and reviewing key project deliverables, risk management, emergency response resource development, website management, communications consulting, and ghost writing.

    Andrew has built a reputation for diligence, consistency, and commitment to quality, as exemplified in his works published in The Globe and Mail, BBC, CBC, HuffPost, and others. Through his background in journalism, he has well-refined skills in public policy analysis, research, fact checking, and writing. Andrew’s international reporting experience includes migration policy analysis and impact assessment for refugees crossing the Mediterranean, electoral reform, Indigenous issues, and more. He is the recipient of four national journalism awards.

    Andrew holds a Masters degree in Journalism and a BA (with distinction) in Anthropology and German. Fun Fact: Andrew played at Canada's first National Roundnet Championships and loves to go backcountry skiing in the Canadian Rockies.

  • Principal Mechanical Engineer / Sr. Project Manager

    Ron is a mechanical engineering, process, and thermodynamic specialist with over 40 years of diverse power generation experience. Ron leads mechanical engineering at Power Team Consulting, supporting generation project development, including using thermal modelling to predict performance and for conceptual cost estimating. Ron is experienced in preparing facility and equipment specifications, steam turbine generator set maintenance and commissioning, and all areas of detailed mechanical and process engineering.

    Ron’s experience, knowledge and capabilities are vast. He has completed projects for small- to large-sized power plants, including combined cycle, cogeneration, and SAGD fueled with gas, coal, wood waste, nuclear energy, and solar. He has also held positions with major equipment manufacturers, engineering consulting companies, and power generation companies. Ron is very well known and respected in the Alberta power generation industry.

  • Principal Electrical Engineer

    Wayne’s diverse career in power generation spans more than 40 years and includes international experience in the U.K., Mexico, Chile, and Australia. These projects encompass cogeneration, combined cycle, pulverized coal, natural gas, packaged boilers, hydro, pumped hydro, reciprocating engines, and PV solar projects. Through this work he has developed an array of specializations: generation technologies, plant process, HV/MV/LV AC, LV DC electrical, controls, SCADA, telecontrol, instrumentation, conceptual design, specification, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance.

    Wayne has been involved in the development, construction, and commissioning of numerous power stations. His reputation and experience have positioned him as a highly valued consultant to support electrical and I&C issues at existing power stations, and as a key member of a new generation project team.

  • Principal Civil Engineer

    Li-Found Wei has over 40 years of experience in project management, geotechnical and civil design, dam safety, and construction of electrical generation plants, hydro plants, and other industrial facilities. He has played central roles in technical support for project development, civil work design, and construction quality assurance for numerous power generation projects.

    Li’s experience supporting power station operations includes civil and structural monitoring and safety inspections, civil and structural improvements, technical support, and betterment projects for small hydro plants and gas turbine plants, transmission lines, substations, and telecommunication tower sites.

    Li has worked in Canada, the UK, Australia, Nigeria, and Madagascar with a variety of power generation companies and in engineering contractor roles. A respected technical expert, Li brings his broad experience and knowledge to the benefit of his clients.

  • Senior Mechanical Engineer

    Steve is a mechanical engineer who brings technical and team leadership to facility design and operation. He has managed capital project work and engineering teams for power generation, gas transmission, and oil and gas companies. Through these experiences, Steve developed a high level of expertise with the engineering, installation, operation, maintenance, and technical support of power generation facilities and small-to-large rotating equipment.

    Steve has experience working for power generation, oil and gas, and petrochemical companies, as well as with engineering contractors. In Canada, the US, Australia and New Zeeland, many of Steve’s roles involved site assignments overseeing construction, commissioning, and start-up and seeing projects through from early development to full operation.

    Steve has an excellent reputation for innovative problem-solving skills and getting to the root of technical and management issues.

  • Sr. Manager, Regulatory

    Kelly is a municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory and environmental specialist who has been active in power generation and the energy industry for more than 40 years. He has broad experience in project planning, development, and management, including public, Indigenous, stakeholder, and agency consultation; regulatory and permitting work for development, operations, and decommissioning; and public and private land-acquisition planning.

    Kelly’s experience spans regulated business, non-regulated competitive business, and not-for-profit organizations. Increasingly during his career, he has participated in and supported respectful Indigenous communication, negotiation, partnership, and opportunity development, for new and existing projects. He has held positions in volunteer and professional boards and committees, serving in the areas of health, community, and regulatory development.

    Throughout his career, Kelly has provided strategic leadership for workgroups of various sizes, leveraging skills that include consultation, facilitation, change management, sustainability, commercial and technical review, and regulatory and policy analysis. An established Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Manager and Business and Project Developer, Kelly has worked in Mexico and across Canada.

  • Health and Safety Management Systems Specialist

    Ken has 40+ years’ experience in multiple facets of the global energy industry, making him an especially welcome management team member responsible for the health and safety management of project or operational teams. Ken’s specialized roles in operational and project safety management include spending twenty-five years in residential international roles, from specialist to director, across North America, China, the UK, Egypt, and Russia.

    Ken’s strengths include extensive experience in effective safety and health management system evaluations for both operations and projects, aiding the development of effective project safety execution plans. This also includes direct roles in the investigation and analysis of incidents and failures with a view towards improvement and recovery.

    Key aspects of Ken’s contributions to recent projects include contractor safety management and providing project safety leadership mentoring.

  • Senior Electrical Engineer

    Riley has 10+ years of hands-on electrical engineering experience across a wide variety of industries in Canada and the U.S., including commercial, oil and gas, agriculture, mining, utility, and manufacturing. He has a strong background in power system analysis, with a particular proficiency in arc flash and protective device coordination, and has performed several system studies on small- to large-sized client distributions.

    Riley has been the lead electrical engineer on numerous projects involving the design and construction of new electrical and control systems as well as upgrades to existing systems at client facilities. This includes managing the procurement process of new LV and MV electrical equipment, as well as experience as a field engineer with direct involvement in the testing and commissioning of client electrical equipment.

  • Senior Project Director

    Kevin has over 40 years of experience in the energy business, primarily in development, design, and construction of electrical generation infrastructure facilities. He brings expertise in all aspects of operations, maintenance, planning, development, design, procurement, and construction and commissioning of gas-fired and clean-energy generating plants.

    Kevin has led business development, project management, and operations of electrical infrastructure in Alberta, Saskatchewan, NWT, Yukon, Australia, and Mexico on projects that include gas-fired generation, water treatment, waste heat, and clean energy — with numerous initiatives located on customer sites to supply electricity and critical utilities to industrial customers. Kevin has led the design, construction, and start-up of five natural gas fired stations and the development of two clean energy facilities.

    Kevin has extensive commercial experience, including the negotiation of contracts for turnkey construction projects, equipment purchases, and Joint Venture, Energy Supply, Power Purchase, Development, and Operating Agreements, as well as other associated contracts.

    Kevin has led operating teams and was Station Manager at the 450 MW Joffre Cogeneration Facility, reporting to a joint venture ownership structure.

    A respected technical and commercial manager, Kevin brings a strong track record of successful completion of projects and commercial agreements.
